What is a Shower Dome?

For this Tiny House Topic, I want to talk about shower domes. Never heard of it before? Neither have a lot of other people apparently. But I’m fascinated.

I’ve seen shower domes only in tiny house tours on Youtube. But every tour talked about how amazing they were as an energy-free alternate or addition to exhaust fans. So I wanted to look up the price of a shower dome to add to my ever-growing budget of things I think would be neat in the tiny! And ouch!! The prices were like $300 without shipping costs. And, the only suppliers I could find online were companies in New Zealand. When I asked a worldwide group of Tiny House folks on Facebook, most of the responses were from people in the USA that had never heard of them before!

But what is a shower dome? A shower dome is basically a silent alternative to an exhaust fan in your bathroom. It keeps the moisture contained within your shower walls and doesn’t let that humid air drift out. This is incredibly smart to consider as tiny houses are so small that the warm, wet air can damage your walls, encourage mold growth, and make your entire house humid instead of just your bathroom mirror. It also keeps the heat in your shower to keep you warm - bonus! This, coupled with an exhaust fan, can ensure that there is no excess moisture in your tiny ever.

Thankfully the internet exists and I was able to find Youtube videos on cheaper options - check out Cheaper Ways NZ for their ‘shower flat’ design. I will probably steal their idea for our tiny home.
